Relactating - A Fight Tell The Finish

I am in the process of relactating for my 6 month old. I was lazy and gave up on it now, I want to breastfeed again. Honestly formula is too damn expensive at $200 or more a month. My little guy will not even take the jar food or cereals so he eats more formula. However breast milk or formula is all they need for the first year.

On Monday evening is when I began my misson and there is no sign of milk just, sore nipples. I have been told and heard it takes about 2 weeks for anything to happen and a month for it to come in full. I just wish it was easier than that. I will be honest I am starting to get discouraged. However, that does not mean I am giving up that easy.

I am currently using a Medela double pump every 2 hours. I also have one of those Medela manual pumps I take with me. For aide in my mission I have fenugreek and domperidone (thanks to a kind mom). I take three domperidone and 6 fenugreek daily.

Did you know, you can produce breast milk without every being pregnant. This is very true women whom adopt or want to build a milk supply for whatever reason do this often. While it does take much longer and more time than those who have had children.

I will keep everyone posted on my mission to relactate.

  1. Hey - do let me know how your mission goes. My 1 year old daughter only feeds from my left boob, so the right one has been out of action for months, but I am keen to get it relactating again, I have just been too lazy with using the pump every hour or so to get it kick-started. Hope you get lactating soon, I have heard good things about domperidone, and also fennel.
